We all aim to make new goals and achieve new things every time a new year rolls around (I wrote a post about that here: 7 New Year Resolutions You Can Try) but in this post, I want to focus on the things I feel will help me grow as a person and expand ‘my brand’ which in turn will help me achieve wider focused goals later on. Let’s see if there’s any you can relate to…
- Spotting red flags.
And acting on them! This year I need to stop being legally blind to obvious red flags and not make excuses for people’s dodgy behaviour. This most commonly occurs when you’re trying to progress with a person you’re feeling and you don’t like the thought of a negative trait ruining what “could be”. Bun that. Don’t waste time. - Read more.
Reading really colours my imagination and helps me be more creative. Upon evaluation, I tend to be happier during months where I’m reading a book I like. Wider vocabulary, inspiration, living through the lives of your characters… yeah reading a good book is lit. - Taking care of myself physically.
I used to be a gym head and I grew up playing every sport imaginable as I went to a sports school. PE was pretty much my sole focus until my late teens so it irritates me that now at 28 I do very little exercise. I want to feel in love with the gym again because not only does my body have the potential to be a 10/10 but the other mental benefits and effects are obviously very appealing. - Be more organised.
I’m one of those stupid people who buy all the gear and then have no idea lol. I buy journals and planners, stationary and props just for it to all sit at the bottom of a pile and only come out when I need to scribble something down. A major key to success is to be organised and have a clear vision of how you want your days and weeks to pan out. I definitely need to start writing things down. - Be more affectionate.
Not everyday unhealthy coping mechanisms. Sometimes show some love and not use sarcasm mid compliment. Doh. - Better Aesthetics.
Running a blog combined with loving a selfie, I feel it’s definitely time I invested in my photos a bit more. I have the latest iPhone yet my pictures still look grainy. *DMs insta crushes and asks them what camera they use* - Saying no.
The stress you cause yourself saying yes to something you don’t want to do is tiresome. This year I will unapologetically only do what I want to do (unless in extreme circumstances where by saying yes I will be helping others). - Communication.
I think we’re all guilty of using our busy schedules as an excuse as to why our communication with friends and family starts to fade into sporadic catch ups. We are, genuinely, very busy but frequent check-ins with our loved ones should always be deemed a priority and not a second-rate chore. I aim to focus on sending those little messages a little bit more.
How many do you reckon you could do with focusing on too? Are there any of your own which you think I may benefit from? Please feel free to leave a comment!
