That time of year again. “Next year is going to be my year” merchants crawling out the woodwork. How was THIS year for you though, buddy?
It always gets to December and everyone starts frantically panicking; what should have been done? Where should I be? Why am I still broke?
We all want to start a new year fresh, otherwise what’s the point of it being a new year? This is why we make new years resolutions.
We make them, but how many of us stick to them? How many are actually realistic, or personal to us? People often fail their resolutions because they’re either rubbish resolutions or they’re rubbish people who can’t plan shit.
If you’re wanting to live your best life in 2018 and feel a new years resolution can help get you there, here are 7 that you can try. Make sure you choose one or two that relate to you though, and that can be personal and achievable, otherwise you may as well join the back of the “next year is my year” line and queue from early.
7 New Years Resolutions:
1. Drop the dead weight.
Sis, 2018 is for YOU and YOUR happiness. Do whatever you need to do to cut off ties with people who bring you any type of negativity. That guy who won’t commit? Kill him. Friends who make you feel guilty for not calling them every minute of the day? Stop liking their pics on Insta. I know this is heavy advice, because it’s not easy, but you will be open to so much more happiness when you surround yourself with only the best of the best.
2. Form a hobby.
When working full time or living paycheck to paycheck, the thought of incorporating something else into your routine sounds insane, but trust me. Spending time doing something you actually like can lead to many great things. Whether it de-stresses you, brings about a new job opportunity, or helps you lose weight, your hobbies can bring a sense of peace and purpose to your hectic everyday life.
3. Read more.
We need to read more. The benefits of reading is that it helps us expand our vocabulary, provides us with knowledge; helps de-stress, and allows us to be better writers, just to name a few.
4. Plank everyday.
Please, I don’t mean going back to that weird time in life where we literally planked everywhere and filmed it, but planking as an exercise. Doing plank exercises helps strengthen your core and prevent injury; if you don’t have much time for the gym, this article here gives you a simple 5 minute plank workout you can do at home.
5. Volunteer.
Set the resolution to do good for others in the upcoming year. After all, you won’t just be benefiting those you help; you’ll also be benefiting yourself. Volunteering can give you a sense of purpose, increase your self-esteem, and make you happier.
6. Increase your health.
Notice I didn’t say “lose weight” ? because that’s so cliche and not always a priority for some. Drink more water, take longer walks, eat vegetables and swap your favourite chocolate for a slightly healthier alternative. There are so many things you can do to stay healthy and fit that doesn’t solely include ‘losing weight’. You will notice by the end of the year that your skin is glowing, your clothes fit nicely, you feel happy and probably added a couple more years to your life expectancy.
7. Save the ‘coins’.
Bruv, saving is hard. It’s very easy to live to your means – which basically means if you have 1k disposable income you’re going to somehow spend that 1k even if you don’t intend to. The higher your wage becomes, the higher your means become. Having an extra £500 doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll suddenly be saving £500. To help this common problem, start by saving your coins. Those £1 or 50ps all add up and you can either treat yourself at the end of the year or put it towards a bigger, longer term money goal.
The most important thing to do when drafting up a resolution is to feel it. To feel empowered and energised at the thought of accomplishing one of your resolution goals. Speak it into existence and practise it. Think about the character traits that you’ll need to help be successful – eg, will you need confidence? Patience? Self-control? Then you can find the necessary tools to make it all a reality
