Last week I wrote an article on the two sides that make up our subconscious – the wounded self and higher self. You can read that here.
I explained that it is very common to attract people who activate your wounds. You never leave a relationship in hope of suffering again, however, your wounded self will always navigate you towards what activates your wounds; your ego is designed to constantly feel like something is missing. The need for validation or the desire to change the circumstances will have you constantly falling for the wrong people.
So, with that being said it’s time to let you know that there is a way around this. It’s by aligning yourself with the other side of your subconscious which is your higher self. The side which loves and respects you. The side which doesn’t question your worth or your ability to succeed. It’s free-flowing energy that oozes positivity, gratitude and love. Once you align in this way, you are forever empowered. Your life purpose becomes clear, you are on track, and your life begins to embrace a flow of grace and ease.
You will no longer desire partners who hold you back or cling to the tiny bit of validation they give you because your wounded self will not be in control. But right now? It most likely is. I hope it’s comforting to know that very few people actually know what it’s like to align with their higher self and it takes a great deal of work. But no time like the present, right!?
How to connect with your higher self
You align with your higher self by getting to know how your body feels when you are in alignment. Then, when you know that feeling, you work towards maintaining it by controlling the direction of your thoughts. All positive or negative bodily feelings are rooted in your thoughts, and these are either in alignment with your higher self or wounded self. When your body feels as good as it can be, your thoughts are in alignment with your higher self; when your body feels “off” in any way, your thoughts are misaligned – activating the wounded ego.
If you’ve been dismissing those hunches and gut feelings, you might want to ask yourself why. Information that comes from the higher self is not necessarily picked up by the physical senses, but it’s no less valid. Often, the messages you receive from your higher self are garbled, cryptic and totally baffling – so this will all take time.
It really helps to journal these messages because sometimes the answers become clear when you write about them. Sometimes you can hear voices; other times, you’ll receive images or strong urges to do, or not do, something.
One ability you’ll develop as you become used to hearing your higher self is the ability to discern between the fear-based voice of the ego and the eternal voice of your higher self.
They key here is to meditate…
Once you learn how to sit in complete tranquillity, you will soon become aware of your higher self. You will need to ask yourself questions in order to identify what feels right and what feels wrong within you.
The answers may come in a variety of delivery methods: words, feelings, images, things suddenly coming into your line of sight or anything that suddenly comes into your awareness.
How do you tell the difference between a fear-based answer that your ego gives you and the voice of the higher self?
If you feel physical sensations of anxiety, tension, fear, anger, etc., you are talking to the ego. The ego creates its identity around pain. That’s what it’s comfortable with and that’s the language it understands. It wants to keep identifying with that negativity because then it has an identity.
If you feel physical sensations of lightness, love, energy, happiness, etc, you are talking to the higher self. One method is to ask yes/no questions and then listen for the immediate answer – sometimes even before you finish the question. This immediate response is probably your higher self, bypassing the programming of the mind. When you give something too much time to linger, the ego would without a doubt creep in and pick up some form of negativity. In essence, listen out for your immediate responses, feelings, answers etc.
You should ask questions and write your first, immediate gut-reaction answers. Then go back and re-read them with an awareness of your physical and emotional response, you’ll see right away if your answer came from the ego or the higher self.
If the answers seem wiser than usual, it’s the higher self. If the answers seem forced or if they sound like you telling other people what they want to hear, they’re from the ego.
I know this probably sounds very confusing and you may have had to re-read a paragraph or two several times over but in time you can absolutely master your thoughts to ensure that your frequency is always on your higher spiritual level. This is when, and only when, you will start to see changes in your life; In your overall happiness and relationships. If you allow the ego to move with power you will always be living in the shadows of your potential or in continuous pain and hurt.
